Would you like to hear the message of Christianity explained clearly? Do you have questions about life, religion or God? Or do you have a friend who would like to know more?

18-22 August 2008: During this week we will be running events around the theme:

“If I were God…”

  • “…I’d give away free food”. Monday: Come to the Student Union (SU) Building from 11.30am for soup and join the discussion in our worldviews survey.
  • “…but I am God”. Tuesday: Music and a short address around midday in the SU.
  • “…I’d just like to watch”. Tuesday: “If God is there, he doesn’t seem very involved”. Pizza, Coke and a discussion on this topic in the SU from 6.30pm.
  • “What if God was one of us?”. Wednesday: Joan Osbourne wrote the song but perhaps you’re wondering about the significance of this question too. Come along for a pancake breakfast in the SU from 8.30am.
  • “…I’d end all the pain”. Can Christianity address the issue of suffering? Join the discussion around the BBQ at the Residential Common Room from 6.30pm.
  • “…I’d make myself clearer”. Is God there? If so, would the real God please stand up? A reflection on these questions and the Academy Award-winning short film Harvie Krumpet in the SU from 6.30pm.

Just a quick note to remind that for the next few weeks we will be meeting in Drew and Esther’s home in Towers Street; a short walk from the uni. Contact us for further details or if you would like help with transport.

Bruce Week & Semester Two 2008

Welcome back to uni for another semester! We pray you had a restful and fruitful break. Many of us had an encouraging and challenging time at Summit last week where we studied the topic of prayer; exploring what the Bible has to say and putting it into practice!

We’re excited by the opportunities this semester, starting with the welcome/orientation of Bruce Week:

  • Tuesday 22nd July: CU will be participating in the activities of Clubs and Societies Market Day. Come and visit us our table in the Student Union Building, 11.30am – 2.30pm!
  • Wednesday 23rd July: Come and join in the fun and games at the SU Building, 11.30am – 1.30pm. In the countdown to Beijing, there’ll wrestling (sumo-style!), big-glove boxing and other physical challenges! Be sure to come for a free lunch provided by the BSA at 12pm.
  • Wednesday night, the Wednesday Talks kick off again where we dig deep into the Bible and enjoy each other’s company around a delicious meal. This week, we will be meeting in Drew and Esther’s home in Towers Street. Contact us for further details or if you would like help with transport.

Through the rest of the semester, we will continue meeting on Wednesdays, looking at topical talks from the biblical books of Genesis and James. Training groups on evangelism and leading Bible study groups will also be running each week.

Week 5 will be Jesus Awareness Week where we will focus on evangelism and hold events around the theme of “If I were God…”. More details will be made available closer to the week, but start thinking and praying about friends you might like to invite along to hear the gospel clearly.

Also keep an ear out for details on upcoming camps for guys and girls!

All the best with your studies and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Semester One Break-up

Join us as we wind up semester one and wind down at the start of study week. This coming Monday 2 June, come along to the Metro/Pugg’s Irish Bar (corner of Bull and Hargraves Streets) around 7pm! A great chance to let the hair down, play some pool and hang out with some friends or even meet some new ones. Dinner is available or eat beforehand.

Also, if you are hanging around Bendigo over the break, we’ll keep meeting each Wednesday night. We’ll hang out over dinner, read through the Word of God and build friendships. It will start at 6.30pm like the Wednesday Talks – think of it as the winter edition. Meeting at Towers Street. Contact us for details.

If you haven’t already, remember to register for Summit!

Summit 2008

Christian Unions across Western Victoria will meet 14-18 July at Halls Gap for Summit: a unique learning experience. The theme is Training Prayer Warriors!

The main Night Talks will examine the major psalms that are given over to prayer and show how these can be great models for prayer today. Bible Discussion Groups will look at important issues such as the ‘who’, ‘how’ and ‘why’ of prayer. Seminars will explore the picture of ‘what to pray’ with the aim of looking up most New Testament prayers. Bible Discovery Groups will dig into the letter to the Philippians to see what it says on prayer. Elective Workshops will allow you to explore a wide variety of interesting issues. All this happens in the midst of brilliant fun, new friends and free time. The Wednesday night theme is always great fun!

Contact us for more information or to register. A discount applies to registrations received before 21st June.
